S.P.A.C.E

“If you know what you have, you know what to throw away.”

-Julie Morgenstern

Julie Morgenstern’s S.P.A.C.E acronym for decluttering is as relevant and applicable today as it was the day she coined it! Many organizers offer their own special twists or processes, but ultimately they all boil back down to this basic formula when decluttering the spaces in your home.

S - SORT: Pull eeeeeeverything out of the space you are decluttering and sort your belongings into like with like categories.

P - PURGE: Evaluate each category and be ruthless! Be honest with yourself about what you actually use, love, and need. Let the rest go!

A - ASSIGN: Assign a home. Where will each item and category live? What makes sense to you and the flow of your life?

C - CONTAINERIZE: If necessary! Often times, you’ll already have what you need after you declutter. If not, think both beautiful and functional/durable when purchasing products.

E - EQUALIZE: (+Evaluate) Take time every day to put items back in their new homes. Re-evaluate your systems periodically to see if they are working. Modify as necessary.
